Sholem Social Action Program
This year, we have a new Social Action Program. We will be studying the problems in our public schools, and how we can work for educational equity - a good education for every student, where all schools have enough books and resources, good teachers, and the help kids need to go to college.

Every Sholem student is required to do at least six hours of social action or community service every year. Students are asked to fill out a form indicating their social action/community service project. They will also discuss what they doing in class throughout the year. The Sholem class can decide on a project to do together, or students can find something on their own to do. They can also do community service with their families.

We encourage participants to select activities listed on the web site of  LA Works. Suggested activities include:

·         Sort, shelve, and stack food at food banks
·         Deliver food to homebound AIDS patients
·         Clean beaches and rivers
·         Create community gardens
·         Design and paint public murals to replace graffiti
·         Interact with animals at local animal shelters
·         Participate in interactive activities with the disabled and the elderly
·         Mentor at-risk youth
·         Tutor kids who need help with reading or math
·       Helping to paint or clean a local public school
·       Working at an after-school program.
