SUMMARY:"The December Dilemma" Group Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Beginning at 10:30 a.m.\, there will be an Adult Activity for Sholem parents and community members. \nLongtime Sholem members Laurie Braude and Lois Bostwick will facilitate a community discussion on “The December Dilemma\,” which may arise from tension between the celebration of Chanukah and Christmas\, especially when the two holidays coincide.  This season can be challenging for many interfaith or intercultural families as they navigate the desire to honor their Jewish identity while also participating in the festive spirit of Christmas.

SUMMARY:Shvues Assembly
DESCRIPTION:The story of Shvues/Shavuot\, taken from the Biblical book of Ruth\, is one of the most important for Sholem families. \nIt is a story of human kindness and inclusion\, bridging cultural boundaries with love\, just like many of our own families. It is also the story of an immigrant joining and enriching a community. \nYou are invited to join us this Thursday from 7:00-7:30 (Pacific Standard Time)\, the first of night of Shvues/Shavuot\, for songs\, stories\, some words of wisdom\, and connection in these increasingly disconnected times. \nTo RSVP and receive a Zoom link\, please send an email to ross@sholem.org

SUMMARY:Secular Seder Online
DESCRIPTION:Sholem’s in-person annual model Seder was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic\, but we are not lost in the wilderness! Sholem will host a communal secular seder on the second night of Passover We will come together on Zoom. \n \nAll are welcome for this non-religious\, cultural celebration of Passover\, that acknowledges the holiday’s origins as a spring festival and honors the story of Exodus as a symbolic tale of freedom. Our digital gathering will feature readings from Sholem’s Family Hagada\, singing & music\, an opportunity to share your at-home seder plate\, as well as time for the kids at your home to go on an afikoman hunt! \n \nRSVP and we will send you information for logging in to the online Seder\, and a free PDF of our secular Hagada. \n \nParticipation is FREE but donations are welcome. Passover is a vital time for the fundraising efforts that keep our secular Jewish ship afloat. We suggest $10-20 per individual/family. Donate here. \n \nIf you can’t join us\, but still want a PDF of the Sholem Hagada – perhaps for your in person seder with your Safer-at-Home companion/s – it is available here for $5. \n \nThere is a maximum number of participants allowed in this Zoom meetup\, so RSVP now to ensure your space\, receive the login information\, and get your digital Hagada. \n \nFor more info\, contact Regan Kibbee: regan@sholem.org or 310-399-2259. \n \nTHIS YEAR ON THE INTERNET – NEXT YEAR IN PERSON! \nSupport Sholem with a Donation
