SPECIAL PROGRAM – 10:15am Presentation & Book Signing “Searching for Butsnevits: A Shtetl Tale” by Prof. Jack Rothman

October 29 @ 10:15 AM - 12:00 PM

- Free

UCLA Prof Emeritus Jack Rothman presents his new book about finding his family’s forgotten shtetl in the Ukraine, Searching for Butsnevits: A Shtetl Tale.  Part autobiography, part social history, and part detective story, Jack pieces together clues to life of his family and the region, from the Czar through the Russian Revolution and Nazi invasion, up to the present day.  He includes a harrowing firsthand depiction of a violent pogrom attack as witnessed by his older cousin Sally, who lived in Butsnevits as a child.

Jack Rothman is a world-renowned author of books on sociology, social work, and community organizing.  After retiring as full-time professor, Jack decided to give stand-up comedy a try, performing off hours at the Comedy Store, the Improv, and other clubs around LA.  He is a long-time member of Sholem Community and SoCal Arbeter Ring/Workmen’s Circle.
